Affordable Web Sites

Zero Maintenance

Guaranteed!

Yes! Affordable web sites!

Patrick's Webs is pleased to introduce Patrick's Webs - Affordable Web Sites, web sites that are truly affordable, truly easy to use, and truly easy to edit.

Let's face it, the problem with a web site for most small enterprises is not the cost of setting up a site. It's the cost of maintaining it. With a Patrick's Webs - Affordable Web Site, you are in control of what's on your site, and you can update and change it whenever you want to do so with a simple toolbar control panel. With a Patrick's Webs designed site, you are in complete control of your web presence!

A bit about me

pk01.jpgPatrick's Webs - Affordable Web Sites really began out of frustration. As a musician, I began designing web pages in the early 1990s for musical groups in which I participated. As my skills increased, I began getting requests to help people design their own web sites. Unfortunately, other than sites for my own business and family, I just didn't have much time for this kind of work. If only there was some way to allow users to maintain their own sites!

I love to help on the design end of things; I just don't have time to do the day-to-day maintenance. And in most cases, "maintenance" is usually uploading a new graphic or picture, or adding, editing, or deleting some text. A costly maintenance program isn't really needed. What is needed, I believe, is an affordable web site that is truly easy to edit. And that is what Patrick's Webs - Affordable Web Sites has to offer.

Edit your own site!

Luckily, today we have the tools available that allow site owners to do most of their own web maintenance without having to have any knowledge of programming or coding. Through the simple-to-use ContentEditable Toolbar, located on the left side of your screen (see picture below), you can edit your web site as easily as you write a letter in your word processing or email programs. It really is that simple!

toolbar.gifSimple to design?

You bet! Once I uploaded the initial files to this web site, these pages were all edited completely online using the ContentEditable Toolbar (see the Editor area in the picture at the right). The ContentEditable Toolbar lets you format text, change font styles, change colors, indent or outdent paragraphs or lines, add links to other pages (this one just takes you right back here, of course), upload pictures and other media, and do just about anything you can imagine. Don't believe me? Give it a try by doing some editing in the Edit Here area below. Please note that the "Save" button is not available for the demonstration area, so any editing you do will be lost as soon as you close the editor. First, let's learn how to edit.

How to edit

Editing your web site is very easy! The only drawback to the editing function is you must edit your pages using the toolbar inside Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). The ContentEditable Toolbar will not work in other browsers, such as Firefox or Safari. You must be running IE, version 5 or greater. The reason you must use IE is because the toolbar uses technology developed for Microsoft's web design program, Frontpage. As other browsers do not have this functionality, the toolbar will not work inside them. So, if you are running another browser, please right-click here to copy the address of this page, close down your current browser, start IE, load this page, and rejoin us here.

Using the toolbar

To open the toolbar, simply click on the screen once with your mouse (to "wake it up" and let it know you are going to do something). Once you "have its attention," hit the ESC key 3 times. This brings up the login dialog where you'll enter your username and password. For this sample, the username is "user" and the password is "editor" (without the quotation marks, of course).

Once the page reloads inside the editor (you'll see the toolbar on the left side of the screen), click the red button at the top left of the toolbar to turn it on. Go ahead and do some editing in the box directly below. Feel free to delete the picture, resize it, whatever you want to do. It won't matter, because you can't save what you do.

Edit here

After you log in, try doing some typing here to see how you can do and say things. Create a link to another web site. Double-click on the table to bring up a dialog to change number of rows, number of columns, how cells are formatted and colored, whatever you wish.

Go ahead and try some of the formatting tools as well. Be sure to bold or italicize something. Try underlining your text, maybe change its color or size. Whatever you decide to do is limited only by your imagination!

That's all there is to it!

That really is all there is to it. Just enter your text, upload and enter your pictures, and in no time at all your web site is up and running. Please visit the Web Hosting page to learn important points about your web host (the physical location of your web site), and the Costs & Details page to learn you how you can have your very own Patrick's Webs - Affordable Web Site in less than one week.
