My first musical experience

Patrick

I've always been a singer. In fact, I used to drive my family to distraction by singing in the middle of the night. As the story is told, my older sister had a little musical toy that played "The Man on the Flying Trapeze." Our mother would play the toy for her and sing the song to her. Of course, Baby Brother wasn't just lying around, oh no! I was listening and absorbing this little ditty and making it my own. Well, one night, very, very late, I shattered the peace and woke the house by bellowing (at the top of my lungs):

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he floats through the air with the greatest of ease, that daring young man on the flying trapeze ..."

Needless to say, my father, who had to get up early for work, was not amused! I guess I kept this up for months as well, so the fact that I've spent my life singing and working with singers isn't too much of a surprise.

My singing today

My favorite form of singing is a cappella (unaccompanied) singing, especially the American style of music called barbershop harmony. I started singing in barbershop quartets when I was in high school and am a Life Member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and an Honorary Life Member of the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers.

I've sung in a lot of quartets over the years. My competition-winning quartets were Bowery Boys (2 competitions in 1989), Muckety Mucks (a comedy competition in 1994), and Grand Parade (Irish men's national champion quartet in 2002 & 2003). I now live in Israel and sing in a quartet called Chutzpah! We sing a wide range of music and musical styles, most of which is pretty outrageous.

In these pages

These pages are devoted to my musical life. The site is still under construction, but when it is finished it will feature pages devoted to my original music and my custom songs. As well as writing music and singing myself, I also give voice lessons and do vocal coaching through my choral services company, SingIsrael. I invite you to browse through the site and to contact me with questions or for further information.
